Skiers and snowboarders can find their alpine paradise in Park City, Utah.

Winter offers a variety of exciting activities whether you’re on the snowy peaks of the Wasatch Mountains in Park City, Utah, or inside a ski slope in the desert of Dubai. No matter the destination, there’s always time to explore the après scene from these Waldorf Astoria resorts around the world.

PARK CITY, UTAH

Park City Mountain Resort has long been considered the ultimate ski destination, with over 7,300 acres of terrain, more than 300 trails, a 22-foot half-pipe, and 16 on-mountain dining options.

Home to Waldorf Astoria Park City, the only luxury hotel offering slope-side access to the largest ski resort in the United States, guests are just steps from the Frostwood Gondola, which can whisk them up the Wasatch Mountains to Canyons Village, one of two bases at the Resort.

The mountain lodge-like setting of Waldorf Astoria Park City offers guests a variety of winter experiences, including skiing, snowboarding, snowmobiling, fly fishing, dog sledding and bobsled rides. For those looking for less strenuous excursions, there’s horse-drawn sleigh rides and snowshoeing.

The hotel also offers ski valets on site, who can organize, store, and dry equipment in a dedicated location on property. In addition, equipment tuning, waxing and on-mountain equipment support calls will be fielded by the in-house partner, Ski Butlers.

DUBAI, UAE

The first indoor ski resort in the Middle East, Ski Dubai is an indoor resort at the Mall of the Emirates that features an 279-foot high indoor mountain (about the size of a 25-story building).

To make the experience feel authentic, there’s a quad lift that takes skiers or snowboarders up the mountain to tackle five slopes of varying difficulties, including the world’s first indoor black diamond run.

Kids will love the play area for those looking to sled and toboggan down hills, throw a few snowballs, and even meet penguins through bookable encounters.

The attraction is only a 15-minute drive from the new Waldorf Astoria Dubai International Financial Centre in the heart of the Downtown District, and 24 minutes from the pristine beach setting of Waldorf Astoria Dubai Palm Jumeirah.

For those looking for other year-round alternatives, there’s Infinite Ski, not far from Ski Dubai, which enables skiers to carve lines through two rotating ski slopes.

And a new attraction for those looking for more powder will soon open at the city’s new Meydan One Mall, which will boast a 1km-long indoor slope.

BEIJING, CHINA

After you’ve explored Beijing’s mix of historical sites like the Forbidden City and Tiananmen Square, and modern marvels of architecture transforming China’s infinitely fascinating city from Waldorf Astoria Beijing, take a 15-minute drive to Beihai Park, which is known for its Qionghua Islet, Beihai Lake and White Pagoda.

Popular during the summer for its boating activities, the park transforms in the winter, attracting skiers. The site features the Circular Wall on the west side of the southern gate, which was part of the royal garden of the Ming and Qing dynasties.

For more options, there’s Snow World, a one-hour drive north from Waldorf Astoria Beijing, which is the nearest ski resort to the city center of Beijing. The resort also features easier runs perfect for tubing and sledding. It’s long been a popular spot for snow seekers, and is conveniently located on the golden tourist route linking the Ming TombsJuyongguan Great Wall and Badaling Great Wall.

An hour from Waldorf Astoria Beijing is Huaibei International Ski Resort, heralded as the most beautiful ski resort in Beijing. Positioned below the picturesque Ming-era Great Wall with 23 watch towers linked to the Mutianyu Great Wall, Huabei is the only ski resort in Beijing surrounded by the Great Wall on its three sides.

All of the area resorts will be key locations when Beijing hosts the Winter Olympics in 2022.
